Nasal Obstruction
Nasal obstruction causes difficulty in breathing from nose. It can occur suddenly (acute) or slowly progressing and persistent(chronic).

An acute nasal obstruction is often a result of swollen nasal tissue due to a virus or allergies. A chronic obstruction, on the other hand is most typically caused by a narrowed nasal cavity, which can result from
Deviated Nasal Septum(DNS) - The cartilage and bone that divides the left and right nostrils is known as the nasal septum. This cartilage is bent if the septum is deviated, which might cause an obstruction.
Congenital or acquired overgrowth of nasal tissue can also result in nasal obstruction by clogging the nasal airways.
Nasal polyps are a type of non-cancerous growths which can obstruct airflow.
Enlarged adenoids can also obstruct airways. The adenoids are a component of the immune system and aid in defending the body against bacteria and viruses. They are situated in the back of the nose just above the tonsils. If they become enlarged they can make breathing difficult.
A nasal blockage in few cases may be due to a nasal tumor.
According to Dr Eshaan Kaushik, the treatment of nasal obstruction depends on cause. In order to remove nasal blockages due to anatomical defects, surgery is frequently advised. Symptoms that are bothersome can also be treated with medication, such as antibiotics or steroids.

Contact Dr. Eshaan if you are feeling obstructed breathing through nose.

Sinusitis/Allergies

In sinusitis, the tissue lining your sinuses becomes inflamed or swollen. Your face has structures called sinuses that are usually air-filled. They can get irritated by bacterial infections, viral infections, or allergies, which can lead to them becoming blocked and fluid-filled. Your face may feel tight and painful, you may have a stuffy nose, and other symptoms as a result.
If you have sinusitis, you may experience symptoms like Postnasal drip (mucus dripping down your throat), Stuffy and Runny nose with thick yellow or green mucus, Pain on Facial pressure (particularly around your nose, eyes and forehead). Sinusitis can also cause Ear pain, Fever and Bad breath.
Dr. Eshaan Kaushik says that sinusitis itself is not contagious. However, if bacteria and viruses are causing it, then it can be infective. Dr Kaushik also warns that in Covid times, risk should not be taken as there is a significant overlap between the symptoms of Covid and sinusitis. Book an appointment with Dr. Eshaan if you feel you might have sinusitis.

Nose Bleeds

Blood vessels in the lining of nose may rupture, causing a nosebleed. Infection, injury, allergic reactions, nose picking, and anything shoved into the nostril can all result in injury and nosebleeds. The firm tissue between the nostrils that separates the nose into two parts, the septum, contains a number of tiny blood veins that are delicate and readily break, resulting in nosebleeds. Dry air is the most frequent reason for nosebleeds. Dry air resulting from hot, low-humidity environments or warm interior air can cause drying up of nasal membrane making it crusty or cracked. This increases the risk of bleeding when touched, picked, or when you blow your nose. Epistaxis can also occur as a result of putting anything in your nose or suffering a nose or face injury. Other causes of nosebleeds include Infections, Allergies, Medications like blood thinning medicines, deviated septum etc.
The term "nosebleed" also refers to epistaxis.
Children frequently experience nosebleeds, which are typically not dangerous.

According to Dr. Kaushik, the problem normally improves in children with time. Take your child to Dr. Kaushik or the emergency room if the bleeding is severe, lasts a long time, or does not stop with first aid.
If nosebleeds are severe, persistent, or frequent,

Adenoids

Adenoids are a normal tissues right behind the nose. They are a part of the lymphoid system, just like tonsils. The lymphoid system eliminates infection and maintains the proper balance of bodily fluids. The function of tonsils and adenoids is to capture and eliminate the germs that enter through the nose and mouth in the initial couple of years of life.
Adenoids in children might expand or swell due to a number of reasons. Your child might have had bigger adenoids at birth. They might increase in size when attempting to fight off an infection. However, even after the infection has subsided, they might remain swollen. Majority of the times it is the physiological increase in the size occurring between 3-8 yrs of age. This makes it hard to breathe through the nose and child might end up breathing only through the mouth. This may cause mouth breathing, snoring, excessive salivation, grinding of teeth while sleeping, uncomfortable sleep with frequent awakenings, poor school performance, recurrent cold and cough , occasionally bleeding from nose as well.

Dr. Eshaan Kaushik remarks that for diagnosing enlarged adenoids, he usually needs child's detailed medical history and symptoms. Additionally, he would need to examine your child's ears, throat, and mouth. Dr Kaushik says that he cannot view your child's adenoids by simply peering through their mouth because they are located higher up than the throat. He usually employs an endoscope to view them properly.
Dr Kaushik says that treatment of enlarged adenoids depends on the root cause. Your child may not need therapy if the symptoms are mild. If medical attention is required, your kid can be given nasal spray to lessen the swelling or antibiotics if he suspects a bacterial illness. Few cases may require a surgery called Adenoidectomy.

Foreign bodies

Nasal foreign bodies are frequently observed in children but may also in those with psychiatric disorders or developmental difficulties. Children may push foreign bodies up their nose in curiosity, or trying to copy other children. One may accidently lodge a foreign body in nose while trying to smell and sniff. Foreign bodies in the nose are often harmless but can injure the mucous membranes, cause bleeding, infection, and aspiration. Foreign objects in the nose frequently present with severe symptoms, but they can be overlooked and persist for weeks, months, or even years after insertion.
According to
Dr Eshaan Kaushik, foreign bodies require immediate removal. He strongly suggests to avoid attempting to remove the object yourself or from your child as this could possibly push the thing deeper up the nose and increasing the complications.
Contact Dr Eshaan Kaushik immediately if you suspect your child has lodged a foreign body in his no.

Snoring and sleep apnea are a very common modern day lifestyle disease.
